About Sew L.A. Fabric and Sew L.A.

- Our company: Sew L.A. started as a small sewing classroom space in the summer of 2007, with one teacher - the owner Shaerie Mead - and four to six classes a week. Since then, we have expanded to a fabric store and classroom occupying over 1000 square feet in the Silverlake section of Los Angeles, employing three teachers, one store staffperson and teaching up to 12 classes per week! This latest expansion, our online fabric store, now extends the business to include Shaerie's husband Josh, making Sew L.A. one of the many amazing family-run small businesses supported by the renewed interest in all things handmade.

- Sew L.A. Fabric: We are very pleased to offer on this website the same wonderful fabric, sewing supplies and notions that we stock in our brick and mortar shop in Los Angeles. We try to source from small companies and independent designers as much as possible, and are always thrilled when we can find organic and/or sustainable fabrics. The tools and sewing supplies we offer have been used on a daily basis for years by our teachers and students, and we are confident in their superiority and ease of use.

- Sew L.A. Shop and Classrooms: Located at 1637½ Silver Lake Boulevard, the brick and mortar shop houses all of our newest and most amazing fabrics along with our classrooms. We have space for group classes, private lessons and for sewing machine rental in our Sewlab. We carry an ever-expanding selection of patterns, notions, supplies, books and sewing machines - it's worth a visit if you are in our area. We are surrounded by many wonderful shops and restaurants if you'd like to make a day of it!
Our store hours are every day from 11am - 6pm, and we are frequently open later for evening classes - call us at 323-665-7097 with any questions.

- Sew L.A. Classes: A huge variety of sewing classes are available to students in the greater Los Angeles area, taught in the classroom of our Silverlake shop. While we specialize in beginner through advanced garment construction, we also offer many project and techniques classes for accessories, alterations, pattern making, quilting, and home decor. Classes are added to the schedule on a quarterly basis, with at least 5 new classes every three months.
Classes may be accessed through our calendar or via the "Classes (Los Angeles)" link on the menu bar to the left of the page.
